Seraphina has been described like a rose by her father. On the outside, she is snappy and very defensive, not allowing people in easily or without a fight, like a rose has it's thorns. On the inside, she is one of the most vulernable people you'll ever meet. Sera is soft-spoken, but extremely loyal, and is easy to tell apart from most people at camp.
She is all about breaking the mold, and is sarcastic enough to snap right back at you or run rings around you if you irritate her in just the right way. Sera also has an extremely long fuse of patience, but, catch her during the months of December, January, and Feburary, that fuse is short. Like a twig short. Sera is also pretty intelligent, but not from reading or school... Instead she has picked up almost seventeen years of gardening intelligence from her father. She doesn't make friends easily, but will gladly give several chances.
On the other side, when facing her in battle, it's easy to tell that she's not a person to be messed with. Despite only being at camp for barely half a month, she is quickly picking up close-combat with knives. Overall, Sera is really quite a nice and caring young woman. She is snappy and sarcastic at times, but in all, she is quite kind, and ready to help anyone who needs it.
Matthew Black was a graduate from Stanford University with a masters in biology and genetics. Back in school, he was constantly spending time in the greenhouses, working with plants and trying to figure out ways to make the flowers brighter or bigger by only looking at their genes. It was his interest in gardening that caught Persephone's eye and one thing led to another until Seraphina was born on April 19th in one of Richmond General Hospital. Matthew was just climbing into bed before he heard the phone ring. He sighed and climbed out of bed, and answered the call, before speeding over to the hospital. Sera was laying in her crib, crying non-stop, and the nurses had told Matthew that the woman with her vanished a few hours ago, which was when Sera started crying. This was the last time that either Matthew or Sera saw Persephone. She grew up, spending most of her time outside and in the garden with her father. Despite him being a single dad, Matthew absolutely doted on Sera, and seemingly had no idea or interest to look for a new romance.
As she grew, she developed the inability to sit still, causing trouble during normal class days for her teachers and classmates. Of course, upon seeing one of her report cards and reading the comments of her teachers, her father decided to bring her into the doctor to see what's up, and he was surprised to receive the news of her diagnosis of ADHD and a prescription to try and control her hyperactive behavior. She grew up normally until she entered fourth grade, and realized that she had trouble reading the thicker books they were assigned for class and all that. Matthew took her back into the doctor, and that was one of the final changes that happened to the Black family. Sera had dyslexia and ADHD, which made her one of the worst students in her class, but there was one class she aced easily: PE.
When she turned eleven, her father had decided to move up to New York City to start his own florist's business. Sera had to leave everything behind, and started sixth grade at one of the worst middle schools in the city. Besides feeling lonely and torn away from her home, she also felt like there was something always following her a few days past her eleventh birthday. It was one afternoon that she was walking home that her life changed during her eleventh year of life. For good. Sera spotted a huge black dog in the shadows of an alleyway one day, and continued spotting creatures all around the city, and occasionally being attacked by one, but they usually ignored her because of her blocked-blood scent by the smell of the school and her father's strong flowers that she spent most of her time around. Her first actual attack was by a bird-like creature, and she killed it by shooting a thorny vine from her hand. This happened when she was thirteen. It took a lot of her energy at that time to summon the vine, and she consquently blacked out. From there, the attacks grew in number until it was one almost every single year. After every attack and sighting, she would tell her father, but he didn't believe her and just sent her off to do more errands for him.
It was an attack close to her 17th birthday, and also entering her senior year of schooling, meeting another new student at her school with crutches and a mop of brown curly hair, almost in an afro and who always followed her aroundthat caused trouble, and luckily it was when she was hanging out with the boy in her class, and they were walking in Central Park, heading to where he lived, and before anyone knew it, a black dog-like creature came out of nowhere at them, lunging at Sera with teeth bared and ready to bite her. She somehow summoned a tornado of petals and grass, slicing the hellhound to dust just after it had injured her pretty severely on her arm and shoulder, effectively eliminating her from fighting at that point. The satyr, who she found out was actually named Cliffe, had to tell her about everything, and so, it was off to camp she went.
Sera and Cliffe made it safely to camp, whereupon just after she entered for the first time, she was claimed by Persephone. She has barely been at camp for two weeks now.
Children of Persephone have the ability to shoot multiple plant thorns from their fingertips, once the thorns touch an opponent's skin they can cause severe skin irritation and a powerful burning sensation for a short time. Much like the infamous North American plant, Stinging Nettles
Children of Persephone can create a small tornado formed of petals and grass blades. As the floral tornado spins faster, the petals and grass blades become hard and strong enough to cut an someone. When the tornado's at it's fastest, the child can launch the blades of grass and the petals at an opponent.
Children of Persephone have the ability to create a protective dome of flowers and vines around them, roughly two to three times the size of the user, as a shield, although will instantly begin to die after a short time. During the fall/winter, they can create a protective dome of durable skulls instead which will crumble to dust after a short time.
(Spring/Summer Only) They are able to communicate with and command animals. (Fall/Winter Only) They can communicate with the dead.
Children of Persephone have the innate ability to talk flowers to life, either making them grow more quickly or bringing them back from a recent death.
Children of Persephone always surrounded by an aura that normally causes plants to grow where they have walked. They can shut it off for a long time if they wish.
Children of Persephone are innately stronger during the Spring and Summer months due to the happiness of their mother.
In the spring/summer months they can create travel roses. Roses that allow the user to teleport from that rose to another one. In the fall/winter months they can shadow travel, to teleport from shadow to shadow. The further the distance traveled, the more energy is drained.
Children of Persephone can turn inanimate objects into a flowers for a short time, this can be used for a multitude of purposes. The larger the object the more draining it is. Only one object may be turned into a flower at a time and it turns back to normal after a short time. The item is immune to further use of the curse for a moderate time.
Children of Persephone can create a dense fog of powerful pollen which causes the opponent to be temporarily blinded and cough madly for a short time.
Children of Persephone have the ability to create ropes of vines and flowers from nothing. They only last for a moderate time before dying and fading away into nothing. Vines and flowers can able be telekinetically moved by the user.
